ASDA are receiving a new fleet of trailers soon from leading customised trailer manufacturers Cartwright Group with an unusual and revolutionary design, to make deliveries to ASDA stores even more efficient.  Bakermedia are producing a series of training videos for all staff about how they operate.  "Getting correct systems into place when any new equipment arrives is very important, and video scores very well in getting vital information over to staff in a quick and effective way" says Peter Baker, Creative Director of Bakermedia.  Filming starts this weekend at locations ranging from Greater Manchester to South Wales with the presentation shots being done at ASDA's head office in Leeds.

We asked Peter for his Top 10 reasons why clients should think of using video for training purposes:

10 TOP REASONS TO USE VIDEO FOR TRAINING

1)       VIDEO GRABS ATTENTION

Trainees will pay attention to a well crafted video and will draw people in to take on board the information being offered.  Well produced training videos won’t patronise or confuse, and often use entertainment or comedy if appropriate to help engage viewers and to get points home.

TRAINING VIDEOS ARE COST EFFECTIVE

A video can cost less per trainee than average training books or manuals to produce, yet be much more effective.  Trainers or lecturers don’t need to be paid for at every session with their associated travel and accommodation costs and there’s no need to take the financial hit of taking a team of people out of the workplace to make up numbers.  Training videos can be watched by small groups or by individuals and they are just as effective.

3)       CONSISTENT MESSAGES

Video presents standardised information for every viewer, every time.  Unlike human trainers, video never has an “off” day or forget things!  Trainees can also go back over areas they’d like to watch again with video.

4)       SIMPLICITY WITHOUT PATRONISING

“A picture is worth a thousand words” – Video lends itself particularly well to physical processes or technical subjects; it can show what exactly is meant when text descriptions or stills could confuse, especially when trainees may not have English as their first language.

5)       VERSITILITY

The shots used for your training videos would almost certainly be useful as part of a corporate video for your website, for exhibitions or for your reception areas.

6)       FLEXIBILITY

Video can be watched in a variety of locations at a time that’s convenient for the employer and trainee.  In a training room, on a laptop at an airport, at their homes!

7)       MEMORABLE

Current psychology research shows that most of us are very receptive to a mixture of visual, audio and physical stimuli.  A well produced training video covers the bases by offering entertaining visual and audio stimulus and by showing moving images.

8)       CONTROL

With video, you have complete control over what is presented to your staff.  Viewers are presented with only the information you want them to receive, in the exact order you want them to receive it.

9)       PERSUASIVE

Video engages viewer’s emotions.  This helps training messages become remembered and to be put into action.

10)   SOCIETY IS MEDIA LITERATE

Virtually all of us understand media and take in a huge amount of information by using video by TV, internet and by message display boards.  We make use of this powerful media by creating training videos that really work.
